December Indoor Track @ RIT

It took a week or so to go through photos from this gallery and put up as many athletes as possible. I finally finished editing down the pics and getting them uploaded to my site. Season Favorites 2008-09: Track and Field--Cross Country

I decided I wanted to finish off my first full high school sports season with a "best of" for each sport. Now that I have finished all the Yellowstone photos and school sports don't start again for a couple months, I need to fill my blog with something and this is the best idea I could come up with.

Some sports don't have many galleries so some will be merged together. For example this "best of" gallery will include indoor and outdoor track and field, plus some cross country. Here are my favorites for the 2008-2009 season.

More Field than Track

I arrived at Gates Chili High School to shoot another track and field event.  Gates was faced off against Rush-Henrietta.  This time I wanted to get in more field events than track. I wanted to balance out a few events I missed last time out. I concentrated on discus, shot put, pole vault, and the high jump. I feel I am definitely getting a feel for where I need to be for each event and sometimes I do find myself out of place but somehow can get a photo that works. Here are a few of my favorites from the day.

Took a ton of pictures running around the track at Gates Chili as they took on Webster Schroeder. Alot of events take place at the same time so it is very confusing. I did my best running around for a few hours. I then finished the night with a few innings of varsity baseball. the baseball team was playing Spencerport.

Super Saturday Part 1

Had a very long day of photography Saturday. I started at 9:00 am at RIT's Gordon Field House for the high school track and field event. The RIT Invitational contained many teams in and outside of Monroe County. I have never shot inside the field house so I just tryed to keep all the distractions out and shoot one thing at a time. Anyone who has been to one of these meets knows the commotion of all the different events going on at once.

I found myself trying to shoot as many Gates Chili participants as possible. This meant shooting the pole vault and then a 3200 meter runner as they passed me where I stand. It did get very crazy trying to get all the GC athletes, but I did my best. I also tryed to shoot some of the better athletes as they participated because you could possibly see these kids in an olympic setting sometime in the future. You never know.

Anyways it was very difficult because of the dim lighting, but a few photos came out relatively well with some noise ninja applied. I had to leave early (2 pm) because I had to be at the Chocolate Ball at 4:30 pm and still needed to charge the batteries and get dressed up. You can read about the ball in Super Saturday Part 2....
