Emily Leone, Codi Battaglia, and Meg Stucko (Section V Alumni)

I have been working with Brockport College for a few years now and get to see some familiar faces from photographing high school games for MaxPreps.  I decided that I wanted to add some photos of those Section V Alumni that I recognize at the college level both from Brockport and their opponents to this blog.  I will be updating with recent photos of alumni and also add some older ones too.  I will start with a game I shot earlier this week.  The Brockport Women's Basketball team has three Section V Alumni on the team this year.

Gates-Chili Boys Soccer v. Spencerport X 2

The boys soccer teams from Gates-Chili and Spencerport played each other twice in back-to back days in October. The first game was at Spencerport H.S. and the Rangers took this game over and won big 4-1. Click here for the rest of the gallery... The second game was in the afternoon the next day at Gates-Chili H.S. and once again the Rangers won but this game was much closer at 1-0. Click here for the rest of the gallery....

2010 Starts with More Basketball

I have been shooting a lot of girls and boys basketball and the first two weeks of the new year wasn't any different. January 5th, the girls of Gates-Chili dominated Spencerport with a 63-37 win. Click here for the photos...

The 12th of January, I traveled to Wheatland-Chili where they took on the boys of Oakfield-Alabama. It was an exciting game but the Wildcats pulled out the victory at the end 47-44. Click here for the photos...

The next day, January 13th, I was back at Gates-Chili's gym were the boys took on Churchville-Chili. The Saints were without their best player and the Spartans took advantage with an easy win 60-27. Click here for the photos...

On Friday, January 15th, the lady Spartans took on the Greece Olympia Spartans. I took photos of both the JV and Varsity teams this night. The young varsity guards for Gates were great as they took control quickly and beat the Greece team 79-57. Click here for the photos...

Winter Session Begins

Winter session is off and running with hockey and wrestling last week. First, Gates-Chili took on Victor at Genesee Valley Park in their first hockey game of the year. The team is solid with some very quick goal scorers and a stifling defense. They beat Victor 4-1 to start the year and have continued to win early this year. Tonight they go up against Webster Thomas. Click here for shots from the game.

Wrestling for Gates-Chili had a tough start as they took on the powerful Spencerport Rangers. The Spartans lost the match but still have some great wrestlers back from last year and a few new ones. I see this team improving from last year and some individuals that could do some damage all the way into states. Click here to see the rest of the shots.

Sports Weekend

Once again I am behind on my blog and editing. I should be catching up quick with a day coming up without an event. Here's a composite blog of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Friday night Gates beat Churchville in volleyball 3-0.

Saturday morning I shot a boys soccer game before the Gates football game. The soccer match put two great teams together. On this sunny morning Fairport was playing at Pittsford Mendon. Mendon ended up beating Fairport 2-0.

After the game I drove to Spencerport for their homecoming football game against Gates-Chili. Gates-Chili scored often and played great defense to win 34-0.

Finally on Sunday my long weekend finished with a long day of Chili Lions football at Memorial park.

Start with Swimming, Finish with Soccer

I am behind on my days because my weekends are busy in the fall. I may miss a few events on the blog but I will do my best to keep this updated.

Thursday I started with Gates-Chili Girls swimming at GC against the Mercy Monarchs. I tryed a few angles but it is very hard to shoot with limited space even in a brand new facility like Gates-Chili. Also, lighting is very difficult, someday I will sneak some strobes in. Anyways heres some of my favorites.

I like the reflection of the red numbers from the scoreboard in this shot. I took one last year that was similar.

I left the pool early to head over to Churchville-Chili, where the boys soccer team was taking on the Spencerport Rangers. Both of these teams have high hopes for this year and have some great players. After the first half was complete the teams were tied 1-1. Spencerport took the lead midway through the second half and even avoided a Saints attempt on a penalty kick late to win 2-1.

When the teams were warming up I took the opportunity to shoot the back up goalies because they usually don't see much game time without a blowout or injury. I really liked the height on this grab by the backup Rangers goalie.

Not only did I get a great goalie shot before the game but during too. The starting goalie for Spencerport made a leap towards me for a Saints shot. I happened to catch him in midair with both hands snagging the ball. You may say, well how do I know it wasn't during practice. If you look carefully on the left you can see the elbow of a Saints player waiting for a rebound.

The hard work and effort these two teams left on the field provided some great photos. This last photo shows a Churchville attacker being blocked by a Spencerport defender.

Westside Camp Continued

To continue on with the westside camp varsity moved on to do defensive drills on Tuesday. Athletes participated in hitting, footwork, and other defending skills. Here a Churchville-Chili runner breaks thriugh the pads.

Here an Arcadia rb does the same drill holding on tight to the ball.

Brockport lineman watch and wait for the coach to hike the ball so they can work on some defensive footwork.

After about an hour of work on these skills teams broke up into some 7 on 7 matchups. This Greece Arcadia Titan works his way to the drinking water before joining his teammates in a matchup against the Greece Olympia Spartans.

(Canon 40D 300mm 1/1250 f/2.8 250 ISO)

The 7 on 7 matchups highlight the qb and his receivers, also those defending the pass on the opposition. There are no running plays and some great battles between wr's and db's. Hilton's quarterback throws to one of his receivers during a matchup against Greece Athena.

A great catch by a Spencerport Ranger as a GC defender watches.

(Canon 40D 300mm 1/1250 f/2.8 400 ISO)

The 11 on 11 matchups made things much more interesting as they now include the lineman. Running backs now had there chance to show some of their skills. Here Greece Athena's running back eyes a Brockport defender coming his way.

(Canon 40D 300mm 1/1600 f/2.8 800 ISO)

The lineman also had a chance to show off their way of making holes and moving defenders. This Churchville-Chili lineman fights hard to make a hole against a Gates-Chili lineman.

(Canon 40D 300mm 1/1250 f/2.8 800 ISO)

Backfield defenders played receivers tight as this GC corner makes a pick against the Hilton offense.

(Canon 40D 300mm 1/2500 f/2.8 200 ISO)

Linebackers and lineman had their fun too. This photo shows Hilton's defenders ganging up on the Arcadia running back.

(Canon 40D 300mm 1/1250 f/2.8 640 ISO)

I took alot of pics during the three days I was there. I tried to get a piece of each part of the camp and get my football eye ready as the Chili Lions are beginning soon along with high school football.

Three Days of Westside Camp

This week I spent Monday, Tuesday and Thursday nights at the Westside Football Camp hosted by the Gates-Chili Spartans. The camp involved offensive and defensive drills along with 7 on 7 and 11 on 11 play. I wanted to get a bunch of different photos of the players running drills and plays.

Every night started with a huge football field full of football players participating in stretching exercises. Here is one of Gates-Chili's players doing leg kicks (Frankensteins) up the field.

(Canon 40D 300mm 1/5000 f/2.8 200 ISO)

The Greece Olympia Spartans continue their line of stretching across the field.

(Canon 40D 300mm 1/5000 f/2.8 200 ISO)

After about 15 minutes of stretching the players broke into groups for offensive or defensive drills. Monday and Wednesday varsity worked on offense while JV worked on defense and alternated on Tuesday and Thursday. On offensive days, varsity divided up into positions and worked on drills pertaining to their position. Here Greece Athena's and Brockport's quarterback work on hand drills that strengthen hand muscles and build hand-eye coordination.

(Canon 40D 300mm 1/2500 f/2.8 200 ISO)

The quarterbacks also worked on footwork. Here a Greece Arcadia qb practices a 3 step drop.

(Canon 40D 70-200mm @110mm 1/2500 f/2.8 200 ISO)

The running backs worked on their agility and footwork also. Here a Gates-Chili player works his legs as another holds on tight.

This Olympia running back looks up at the coach to see which direction to make his cut.

(Canon 40D 70-200mm @200mm 1/3200 f/2.8 200 ISO)

The last offensive skilled position is the wide receivers. They worked on catching the ball with distractions and with specific routes. Here a Hilton Cadet catches a pass behind him on a crossing route.
