Bitter Cold JV Girls Lacrosse
Once the boys baseball game got out of hand, I headed over to the JV girls lacrosse game where Gates took on the Greece Thunder. The weather definitely was colder by this time of the day and most fans were pretty covered up. I stayed for a while shooting until my fingers could not push the button anymore. Some shots from the cold night...

Boys Sluggers Start off Cold
Just like the boys lacrosse team Gates-Chili's baseball also got off to a rough start. Thursday the Spartans lost 15-1 to the Pittsford Sutherland Knights. The Knights came out slugging scoring in bunches. Gates really never got into the swing of things on a very cold and windy night. Hopefully they will pick up their game in the next game. Here are some shots...

Overtime Loss for the Boys
Boys Lacrosse was at it again except this time it was a much closer game. Gates played fellow Chili resident school, the Churchville-Chili Saints on Gates-Chili's home field. It was a great game with some decent weather that was tied 8-8 after four quarters and had to be resolved in overtime. Churchville won the faceoff to start sudden death and won it on a quick goal about one minute into the extra period. The pics...

Gates Girls LAX Opener
Like the boys lacrosse team, the girls also lost their opener at McAvoy Park. Gates Chili faced off against Mercy and had a tough time stopping the Monarchs from scoring early. The Spartans did bounce back with a late surge but came up short. The pics...

Conesus Lake Inlet
Traveled down to Conesus Lake to check out the pike and walleye run at the inlet. Not many fish at the wall but there were a few pike trying to jump over. Farther down were a bunch of walleye preparing to make their attempt. I walked down the trail and saw one of the Bald Eagles flying through. Alot of Red-Winged Blackbirds were performing their mating rituals. Here are a few shots.

Spring Rude Awakening
Well spring sports started for me yesterday at McAvoy Park in Irondequoit. It was Gates-Chili's first lacrosse game of the year. Gates started off against the Webster Thomas Titans. I was excited to get back into the outdoor sports. I missed using the bigger lenses, especially since I now have the 300mm f/2.8. Well the excitement of being outside slowly faded as Gates started off their season with a 18-3 loss. Not they way you want to start. Hopefully it was just the start of the season rust and they will shake it off. Hopefully.....Here the shots and check out the gallery.

Gardenscape 2009
Just a quick post on a recent shoot I did at the Dome in Henrietta, NY. Every year before spring a large group of Rochesterians and other nearby gardening folk meet up and check out some great work by some companies who set up some professional displays. I shot two separate days; one was a pre-party put on by the Epilepsy Foundation and the other was a early morning weekend. Both days the dramatic dark lighting was setup so I did the best I could without flash.

Basketball Sectionals
The winter season came to a end this week as Gates Chili won another championship. This time it was basketball. I think it must be their photographer this year that has given them such good luck in winning titles. Thats what I keep telling myself. Anyways, GC finished it's season with a huge upset over Rush Henrietta (who was favored due to one of the players already commiting to Division 1 Rutger Scarlet Knights) at the Blue Cross Arena. It was a great game that ended finally after a overtime period. Here are some of the shots from sectionals:

Owl Woods
March is the month of migrating owls coming through the Rochester and New York area. I found this out last year in April, which means I was too late. So, I was anxiously waiting for this month to come around both to spot some owls and its a break from sports as winter season ends and spring season begins on April 1st. There is a great area near the lake called Braddocks Bay. In that area is a piece of woods that birders use for banding in the spring and contains many types of pines which is perfect for housing some migrating owls. Hence the piece of woods is named Owl Woods. The first day I went out there I found nothing in my short time due to the cold weather. The next weekend was much warmer and I was finally able to spot my first wild owl. It was a Saw Whet Owl and they are very small. Hopefully I will see some more in the up and coming weekends. Here are some shots.
